My work draws from my family history, interwoven with the objectivity of the modern day. I incorporate digital technology with the etching of metal which takes my work from past to present. My great grandparents came over as Jewish refugees during WW2, after surviving Kristallnacht in Vienna. I retell fragments of the stories, passed down through generations, through my photographic imagery and choice of surface and materials. With the use of light as a medium, I have begun to uncover the more visceral elements that come with these stories. I am interested in the unspoken, that which holds a poignancy that will never be expressed. I consider prosthetic memory in my approach and consider how fragments of stories have shifted in meaning and perception over time. |
